Wednesday have offered Bannan a new deal, with his current contract expiring on June 30.

However, the club failed to pay their players on time for the second time this season just two weeks ago.

It leaves the future of Bannan and several other stars in doubt amid uncertainty at Hillsborough.

According to The Irish Sun, Wrexham could capitalise on the situation.

The Red Dragons are keeping tabs on Bannan ahead of a potential swoop for the 35-year-old.

Bannan scored four goals and provided five assists in 41 Championship appearances last season.

He is not the only player being linked with a move to the Racecourse Ground, though.

The report adds that Wrexham are also interested in free agents Stuart Armstrong and Danny Ward.

Armstrong spent the second half of the campaign alongside Bannan at Wednesday after signing from Vancouver Whitecaps in January.

However, his short-term deal has not been extended beyond the end of the season after just 11 appearances for the club.

The Scotland midfielder has previously enjoyed spells with both Celtic and Southampton.

As for Ward, the Welsh goalkeeper will leave Leicester when his contract expires at the end of this month.

The 31-year-old began his career with Wrexham in the club’s academy.

He failed to make a single first-team appearance, though, before leaving for Liverpool aged 18.

Phil Parkinson is still yet to make his first summer signing ahead of the new season.

The Red Dragons are preparing for a return to the second tier of English football for the first time in 43 years.

They have not competed at this level since 1982, having secured their return with a third consecutive promotion last term.

It completes a meteoric rise from the National League, where they found themselves as recently as 2023.
