Nearly four decades after a Denver woman was found dead near Interstate 25 outside Dacono, the Weld County Sheriff’s Office is still seeking answers into her death.
Robin Denise Nelson was one of four Black women suspected to be sex workers in the Denver area who were found dead in rural Weld County between 1981 and 1992 whose deaths remain unsolved.
Nelson was found dead on June 12, 1988, near the intersection of Weld County Road 8 and the Interstate 25 Frontage Road near Dacono and was identified two days later by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, according to the Weld County sheriff’s office. Nelson was reported missing by a friend who was babysitting her son after Nelson did not retrieve him on June 7.
An investigation into Nelson’s whereabouts prior to her death did not yield any suspects. The Weld County Coroner’s office determined she had died of a drug overdose, but the sheriff’s office said there are suspicious circumstances surrounding her death that still need to be figured out.
Nelson was an acquaintance of Tammy Lynn Cheeks, the release stated, one of the other three women whose deaths remain unsolved, along with Yvonne Rabb and Valerie Meeks.
