Puri: A gruesome murder has stunned residents and pilgrims in Puri amid the Snana Purnima rituals of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra.

The incident occurred at Rabeni Chhak area in Gudiasahi under Puri Town Police Station limits, despite heavy police deployment for the festival, as per media reports.

The victim, Jagannath Dikshit of Mahasuar Sahi, was found dead in a pool of blood near the residence of Narayan Patjoshi, the prime suspect.

Initial investigations suggest a personal enmity may have led to the crime, though the reason for Dikshit’s visit to Patjoshi’s home remains unclear.

The broad daylight killing has sparked concerns over security in Puri ahead of the annual Rath Yatra.
