CATAWBA COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A party that was advertised on social media later ended in a shooting that left one man dead and 11 others hurt.

On Sunday, June 1, deputies first responded to the home on Walnut Acres Drive in the Mountain View community in Catawba County around 11 p.m. in reference to a noise complaint.

“Our deputies responded to that complaint, addressed the controlling parties there at the residence about the noise and left a short time later,” said Maj. Aaron Turk with the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office.

Then around 12:45 a.m., 911 calls reported multiple people shot at the residence. Authorities said more than 80 shots were fired.

The FBI confirmed that the shooting started on a hill behind the next-door neighbor's house.

The sole confirmed fatality was Shawn Patrick Hood, 58, of Lenoir. Among the 11 injured, some were shot, while others were hurt trying to escape the chaos, the sheriff's office said.

Victims range in age from just 16 to 57 years old.

Authorities say the late-night party was advertised on social media, and they are investigating whether it was a paid event.

Alcohol Law Enforcement is currently investigating whether there was underage drinking at the party. Although it was speculated, officials say there was no off-duty law enforcement at the party.

While four people were still hospitalized on Monday, the FBI confirmed on Tuesday with Queen City News that only one person remains under medical care.

Law enforcement executed multiple search warrants as part of the ongoing investigation. They would not provide specific locations where the warrants were executed.

Authorities seek videos and photos from the party

Now, law enforcement is asking for the community’s help.

Catawba County Sheriff Don Brown is urging homeowners and businesses near the scene to check their surveillance cameras for anything unusual from the night of May 31 into the early hours of June 1. Officials are especially interested in video from:

Highway 127 Huffman Farm Road Pittstown Road Bethel Church Road

If you have footage from those areas, the sheriff’s office asks that you call 828-464-3112.

FBI offering a $15,000 reward

The FBI has also launched a secure website for anyone with photos or videos from the party to upload digital evidence. They’re hoping that cell phone clips, security footage, or even social media posts might help them identify those responsible. A $15,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the shooters.
