Florian Wirtz has refuted claims he wants to wear the no.10 shirt at Liverpool.
A report from Sky Germany stated Wirtz, who sports the no.10 on his back at Bayer Leverkusen, hoped to do the same at Anfield.
Wirtz isn’t in the mood to steal anyone’s shirt numbersGettyHowever, the no.10 shirt is already worn by Alexis Mac Allister, who inherited it from Sadio Mane when joining from Brighton in June 2023.
Although the iconic number may have been dangled as a carrot by Liverpool in negotiations for Wirtz, the German has since rejected the notion he would forcibly take it from Mac Allister.
“Who says I want the 10 I respect players,” Wirtz wrote on an Instagram story.
“Don’t believe everything what’s written.”
Wirtz’s verdict will have been music to Mac Allister’s ears given the 26-year-old spoke about how much he loved the number to Liverpool’s club website upon signing.
“I know how important the number ten is in football,” Mac Allister said in 2023.
“I had the possibility to take the number eight as well, which is a big number for this club because of [Steven] Gerrard, of course.
“But I decided for number ten because I used it a lot of times in Argentina, in Brighton, under-23s national team as well.
“It’s a number that I really like and that’s why I chose it.”
Wirtz may not even need to ponder what number he’d like on the back of his Liverpool kit given Leverkusen rejected the Reds’ latest bid of £109million.

That is currently held by Chelsea who paid around £115m for Moises Caicedo in 2023.
Personal terms have already been agreed between both Liverpool and the player, with the 22-year-old only having eyes on a switch to Merseyside.
Although Leverkusen have shown a willingness to wrap up a deal for Wirtz early in the window, talkSPORT’s chief football correspondent Alex Crook revealed on Monday the German club would be open to having Harvey Elliott and Jarell Quansah included in any future offers.
“Liverpool have made their initial offer, we understand in excess of £109m.
“It is not quite a British record fee, which is what Leverkusen were asking for.
“When Bayern Munich were at the negotiating table, the price was £126m.
“The interesting element here is the potential of Liverpool players heading in the opposite direction.
“Bayer Leverkusen are big fans of Harvey Elliott in particular, who is a player Liverpool would be willing to sell for the right price this summer.
“The other man who could move in the opposite direction is Jarell Quansah.
“Liverpool trying to get their business done early.”
