Shakur Stevenson responds to Floyd Mayweather offer and provides clarity on Eddie Hearn deal ...Middle East

Shakur Stevenson is considering his options as he nears the end of his deal with Matchroom Boxing.

The WBC lightweight champion signed a two-fight contract with Eddie Hearn‘s promotional outfit last August.

Stevenson has one fight left on his deal with Hearn, while Mayweather is keen to join forces with the WBC lightweight champion

He made his Matchroom debut on February 22 with a stoppage win against short-notice stand-in Josh Padley.

But reports subsequently emerged suggesting Stevenson had left Hearn for veteran American promoter Lou DiBella ahead of his upcoming clash with William Zepeda.

When asked about his current promotional status by talkSPORT.com, Stevenson replied: “I’m doing what I want to do, I’m in a situation where I’m blessed enough to do whatever I want to do in boxing.

“And I like Eddie Hearn, I think he is one of the best promoters in the sport of boxing, so I’d like to have Eddie on part of the journey with me.

“Only if it makes sense, and right now it makes sense, and for future reference, if it makes sense, then I am happy to keep it on with Eddie.”

For now, it appears Hearn will remain Stevenson’s promoter at least until July 12, when he locks horns with his mandatory Zepeda in Queens.

After that, potential suitors will be queuing up for his signature.

At the front of the line is Floyd Mayweather Jr, who sat down with Stevenson after he split with Top Rank last year.

Ultimately, Stevenson chose to sign with Hearn, but the three-weight world champion remains open to the idea of linking up with Mayweather Promotions.

“When you are one of the best fighters in the world, everyone wants to be part of your team,” he said of a potential link-up with Mayweather Jr.

“I appreciate Floyd, that is my guy. For sure, [I would consider linking up with him].

“I would love to. He is one of the best boxers to ever live, and just to have him on my team would be amazing.”

Stevenson and Zepeda were initially due to square off in February.

But the fight got postponed after Zepeda suffered a hand injury during his clash with Tevin Farmer.

Subsequent attempts to get the fight over the line proved difficult, with Stevenson expressing discontent with the initial figure he was offered by Saudi boxing mogul Turki Alalshikh.

In the end, they eventually came to an agreement to get the long-awaited fight over the line on the same card as Edgar Berlanga vs Hamzah Sheeraz at the Louis Armstrong Stadium.
