For National Men’s Health Week, Weld health department encourages routine care ...Saudi Arabia

The Weld County Department of Public Health and Environment urges men to prioritize their health.

Compared to women, men are less likely to regularly visit the doctor, yet more likely to engage in behaviors that can lead to health risks like “smoking, excessive drinking and poor diet,” according to a health department news release. Men also have higher death rates for cancer, heart disease, diabetes and suicide.

The health department hopes to spread awareness during National Men’s Health Week on preventable health problems and positive habits that can lead to healthier, longer lives among men. This involves following regular screening and wellness schedules.

Starting at age 30, men should consider getting an electrocardiogram, also known as an EKG, to monitor their heart health, according to the release. By 45, they should begin to get annual screenings for colon and prostate health.

After 50, men should schedule a colonoscopy or sigmoidoscopy every three to four years, the release said. Between the ages of 65 to 70, men who have smoked should consult with a doctor about screening for abdominal aortic aneurysm and lung cancer through a low-dose CT scan.

“Much like maintaining a vehicle, staying on top of your health requires routine care,” Public Health Education Manager Kelly Martinez said in the release. “Preventive screenings, nutrition, physical activity and mental health support all play a role in helping men live well.”
