Kyle Kirkwood roared on Sunday to his fourth career IndyCar win at the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix, overcoming front wing damage and a late restart to dominate the bumpy streets of downtown Detroit.
The Andretti Global star, piloting the No. 27 Siemens AWS Honda, called his car “on rails” despite a clipped wing from a bold pass on Kyffin Simpson.
“This AWS Honda was on rails all weekend long,” Kirkwood said, praising his team’s “epic pit stops” and “epic strategy.”
Starting third, he seized the lead on Lap 79, diving under Santino Ferrucci in Turn 3, and held firm through a red-flag restart.
“The car was flawless, and on restarts, man, the car just came alive,” Kirkwood beamed. With strategic mastery and fearless moves, the 26-year-old turned chaos into triumph, finishing 3.5931 seconds ahead of AJ Foyt’s Ferrucci, while he Andretti teammate Colton Herta was third.
