The chocolatey, pistachio-flavored dessert from the Middle East rose to popularity in the US in 2023.
The candy is filled with pistachio cream and the shredded pastry called kataifi, but enrobed in dark chocolate rather than the typical milk chocolate.
It was being kept under wraps until an employee and it was then re-posted to Reddit.
The user wrote: “Saw this on my TikTok posted by an employee!
“They said it should be in stores starting 5/28.”
And fans were happy about the news, with one person writing: “Thank you, TJ! Got my daughter a $30 Dubai chocolate bar for her birthday. This is much better!.”
While someone else said: “Omg! I’ve never tried this chocolate before so I’m excited.”
GONE IN A FLASH
But now, Trader Joe’s has been depleted of its Dubai Chocolate, as reported by SFGATE.
The outlet did find one location that had about 10 bars left, but it is unclear if this is still the case now.
This Trader Joe’s was located in North Beach.
It has not been directly confirmed that Trader Joe’s will be putting more bars on the shelves, but it isn’t out of the question.
A spokesperson for Trader Joe’s said that “if our customers really love this product, we can certainly get more.”
But we do know that San Francisco Trader Joe’s stores plan to replenish their supply of the viral treat on June 9 or 10.
Dubai Chocolate Bar Craze
The iconic Dubai Chocolate Bar has taken the internet by storm.
It went viral in December 2023 thanks to TikToker Maria Vehera’s video showing her indulging in the Middle Eastern treat, which has since garnered over 6.9 million likes.
The original Dubai Chocolate Bar, called Can’t Get Knafeh of It, was created by Fix Dessert Chocolatier in Dubai.
Vehera’s post sparked a craze among sweet tooths, who were quickly disappointed to realize that the decadent treat was expensive and hard to find.
Many social media users have whipped up copycat versions and homemade Dubai chocolate bars to get a taste of the treat.
Starbucks even launched a Dubai Chocolate Bar Matcha Latte inspired by the dessert, which has high demand and limited availability in the states.
Several retailers have begun selling versions of the chocolate bar as well to capitalize on the trend.
Trader Joe’s has beaten its rivals for price on the viral chocolate craze.
For example, a seven ounce Dubai Chocolate Bar at Target is going for a whopping $29.99.
And Walmart sells a seven ounce bar for $24 – marked down from the original $28.99 price.
Costco has tried a different method, selling the bars in packs of three priced at $44.99.
Costco previously hopped on the Dubai Chocolate Bar trend, rolling out boxes of 41 bite-sized Bouchard Dubai Chocolates for $17.99.
With Trader Joe’s being the most affordable place you can get the Dubai Chocolate, shoppers will no doubt be returning for seconds if they can.
