It’s almost time for the NCAA Tournament! Thirteen SEC teams have made the field of 64, and everyone has their sights set on making it to Omaha as 1 of the last 8 standing to reach the College World Series.
When talking about a group of 13 teams, paths to the postseason vary. A few teams had to fight their way in at the end. Others checked all the boxes weeks ago and either cruised into regionals or stumbled their way to the finish line.
Entering the postseason, who’s hot and who’s not in the SEC? Let’s take a look ahead of the action on Friday.
Who’s hot?
These are the teams on a tear as regional play is set to begin:
Arkansas (No. 3 national seed, Fayetteville Regional host)
Last 10 games: 6-4 Last SEC series: W, 2-1 vs. Tennessee SEC Tournament: 0-1 (L-Ole Miss)The Razorbacks’ last 10 games came against regional hosts Texas, LSU, Tennessee and Ole Miss, and they’ve won more than they lost. Yes, last time out was 1-and-done in Hoover, but Arkansas can feel good about winning its last 2 home series, going 5-1 against Texas and Tennessee.
Dave Van Horn’s squad is 32-4 at home on the year, so the Hogs have every reason to feel confident about the Road to Omaha going through Fayetteville.
Auburn (No. 4 national seed, Auburn Regional host)
Last 10 games: 6-4 Last SEC series: L, 1-2 vs. Ole Miss SEC Tournament: 0-1 (L-Texas A&M)Winning the majority of the last 10 feels good, but it’s worth mentioning that Auburn dropped the final series and then went 1-and-done in Hoover. But, more importantly, AU is hot at Plainsman Park, where it has won 6 of its last 7, including a series win over Mississippi State and a sweep of South Carolina. For the season, the Tigers are 25-6 at home, so there’s plenty of reason to expect an Auburn Super Regional.
Florida (Conway Regional 2-seed)
Last 10 games: 6-4 Last SEC series: W, 2-1 vs. Alabama SEC Tournament: 1-1 (W-South Carolina, L-Ole Miss)The Gators have the attention of the college baseball world, ending the regular season as the hottest team in the SEC. By now, everyone’s heard about Florida starting 1-11 in SEC play and finishing 15-15. UF won its last 6 SEC series in a furious fight to notch at least 13 conference victories and was briefly in the hosting conversation.
One way to look at it: Florida has not lost twice during a weekend series since early April against No. 1 national seed Vanderbilt. Continue to play at the level it took to claim road series against Texas and Mississippi State, and the Gators have a chance to get back to Omaha as an unseeded team.
Georgia (No. 7 national seed, Athens Regional host)
Last 10 games: 6-4 Last SEC series: W, 2-1 vs. Texas A&M SEC Tournament: 0-1 (L-Oklahoma)Georgia is a bit tricky to figure out. The Bulldogs have won 2 of their last 3 SEC series and 6 of their last 10 overall. Those are encouraging numbers for the postseason, but it’s worth remembering 5 of those wins came against Mizzou and Texas A&M, teams that did not make the field of 64.
The 1-and-done showing in Hoover can be chalked up to losing a pitcher’s duel to OU’s Kyson Witherspoon. UGA is back home, and the Bulldogs did not drop an SEC series at Foley Field all season, notably going 9-3 against the likes of Kentucky, Auburn, Arkansas and Oklahoma.
LSU (No. 6 national seed, Baton Rouge Regional host)
Last 10 games: 6-4 Last SEC series: W, 2-1 vs. South Carolina SEC Tournament: 1-1 (W-Texas A&M, L-Ole Miss)LSU finished No. 10 in RPI, but the committee deemed the Tigers worthy of an all-important top-8 national seed. It’s a big boost for the Tigers to be playing at Alex Box, where they’re 30-5 on the year.
Jay Johnson’s team can feel reasonably confident about the way it’s playing right now. Dropping the Texas A&M series was a bit of a letdown, but the Tigers got one back against the Aggies in Hoover. Beating Arkansas, another national seed, in May, was huge. And then the Tigers won the series against Paul Mainieri’s Gamecocks to end the regular season on a high note.

Mississippi State (Tallahassee Regional 3-seed)
Last 10 games: 8-2 Last SEC series: W, 3-0 vs. Mizzou SEC Tournament: 0-1 (L-Texas A&M)MSU’s final midweek game against North Alabama was canceled, so the Bulldogs’ last 10 have all been against SEC clubs. Losing 9-0 in Hoover to Texas A&M was rough, but winning 5-of-6 against fellow NCAA Tournament teams Kentucky and Ole Miss before sweeping Mizzou still makes for a scorching finish. The Diamond Dawgs had to close out the year strong to make the field of 64 after firing head coach Chris Lemonis, and now Mississippi State is one of those teams no one wants to face with the season on the line.
Ole Miss (No. 10 overall seed, Oxford Regional host)
Last 10 games: 6-4 Last SEC series: W, 2-1 vs. Auburn SEC Tournament: 3-1 (W-Florida, Arkansas, W-LSU, L-Vanderbilt)The Rebels are one of the hottest teams in the country entering the NCAA Tournament. They are 5-2 in their last 7 games against fellow tourney teams Auburn, Florida, Arkansas, LSU and Vanderbilt. Oxford Regional teams Georgia Tech, Western Kentucky and Murray State can’t be too happy with their draw considering the way Ole Miss is playing right now.
Vanderbilt (No. 1 national seed, Nashville Regional host)
Last 10 games: 8-2 Last SEC series: W, 3-0 vs. Kentucky SEC Tournament: 3-0 (W-Oklahoma, W-Tennessee, W-Ole Miss)Vanderbilt is the hottest team around right now, winning its last 8 against fellow NCAA Tournament teams Tennessee (3x), Kentucky (3x), Oklahoma and Ole Miss. Everything is clicking for the Vandy Boys right now, who went 28-5 at home during the 2025 regular season.
The last time Vanderbilt won the SEC Tournament, its season ended with a 1-2 showing in the Nashville Regional. With the way the Commodores are currently playing, however, it would be shocking if Tim Corbin’s team is not hosting a Nashville Super Regional next weekend.

Who’s not?
These teams need to pick it up a notch to avoid an early tournament exit:
Alabama (Hattiesburg Regional 2-seed)
Last 10 games: 5-5 Last SEC series: L, 1-2 at Florida SEC Tournament: 1-1 (W-Mizzou, L-Tennessee)UA finished the regular season with a fitting 16-14 SEC record. Every weekend, you could count on the Crimson Tide to not get swept, but its only sweeps are of Mizzou and Texas A&M. For weeks now, Alabama has neither been red-hot nor ice-cold. Down the stretch, the room temperature Tide were fittingly 3-3 against Georgia and Florida and then 1-1 in the SEC Tournament.
Kentucky (Clemson Regional 3-seed)
Last 10 games: 4-6 Last SEC series: L, 0-3 vs. Vanderbilt SEC Tournament: 0-1 (L-Oklahoma)Kentucky‘s inclusion in the field of 64 came as a bit of a surprise. The Wildcats stumbled to the finish line as a bubble team, falling to 29-24 by dropping their last 4 to Vanderbilt (series sweep) and Oklahoma (SEC Tournament).
When you’re as cold as UK, you have to take the approach that the postseason is a new season. We’ll see if the Cats can put their recent struggles behind them and start fresh in the Clemson Regional.

Oklahoma (Chapel Hill Regional 2-seed)
Last 10 games: 3-7 Last SEC series: L, 1-2 vs. Texas SEC Tournament: 2-1 (W-Kentucky, W-Georgia, L-Vanderbilt)Oklahoma had a rough ending to the regular season, but the Sooners are probably feeling a bit better about themselves after the SEC Tournament. Losing 5 of the last 6 to Kentucky and Texas was a miserable way to wrap the regular season. OU has to build from the trip to Hoover, where it beat UK 5-1 and then Georgia 3-2.
A team that’s 3-7 over the last 10 certainly isn’t hot, but if the Sooners can hang in the NCAA Tournament if they get strong pitching performances like they did in Hoover. Oklahoma was 9-9 on the road this season and 6-1 in neutral contests.
Tennessee (No. 14 overall seed, Knoxville Regional host)
Last 10 games: 5-5 Last SEC series: L, 1-2 vs. Arkansas SEC Tournament: 2-1 (W-Alabama, W-Texas, L-Vanderbilt)Good luck trying to figure out the up-and-down Volunteers. Tennessee‘s wins over Alabama and Texas in Hoover are impressive. But UT can’t quite be described as hot, either, after getting run-ruled in a shutout loss to Vanderbilt and having dropped its last 5 SEC series. Lindsey Nelson Stadium has the makings of a tough environment for opposing teams, but Tennessee has not won a home weekend series since March.
Texas (No. 2 national seed, Austin Regional Host)
Last 10 games: 4-6 Last SEC series: W, 2-1 vs. Oklahoma SEC Tournament: 0-1 (L-Tennessee)It feels a bit strange to be concerned about the SEC regular-season champion, but it’s fair to wonder what’s going on with Texas. The Longhorns were on top of the college baseball world, then they stumbled in the final month of the regular season, going 3-6 over the last 3 conference series against Arkansas, Florida and Oklahoma.
The SEC Tournament loss to Tennessee was a 12-inning game, so it’s not one to stress over after securing the No. 2 national seed. The Horns have been a dominant 26-5 at home, but did drop 2 of 3 to UF in the final home series before bouncing back to win the OU series in Norman.
