The company confirmed that it nixed the ingredient, which is used to whiten food and/or brighten colors—and can also make candy appear shiny—from its formulas before the end of 2024, according to a new report from Bloomberg News.
Skittles' parent company—which also produces treats like M&M's, Snickers, Twix, and Mars bars—initially pledged to remove titanium dioxide back in 2016, and is currently still using synthetic dyes like Red 40, Yellow 5 and Blue 1—color additives that the FDA and HHS said last month they would be working to have eliminated from the food supply by the end of next year.
