CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- The principal of Ardrey Kell High School has been suspended with pay, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.
Jamie Brooks, 53, has worked for CMS for more than 30 years, starting as a middle school language arts teacher in 1994. She rose through the ranks, serving as an assistant principal at several schools before becoming a principal in 2008.
She assumed leadership of Ardrey Kell High School in 2020, according to school records.
CMS confirmed that Brooks was placed on paid suspension as of May 2, 2025. In a brief statement, CMS said, "As this is a personnel matter, we cannot provide any additional details."
According to district records, Brooks currently earns an annual salary of $189,915.02 and is under a four-year contract running through 2026. There have been no public disciplinary actions listed against her prior to this suspension.
Brooks’ long career with CMS has included leadership positions at Community House Middle School and multiple assistant principal roles across the district. Her time at Ardrey Kell has spanned nearly five years.
It remains unclear how long the suspension will last or what specific circumstances led to the decision. As of now, no interim principal has been officially announced.
