Kevin Reynolds, who coached Villa Park’s boys basketball team for 30 seasons, died Friday. He was 59.
Reynolds had been dealing with cancer for several months.
He coached Villa Park to 634 wins and seven CIF Southern Section championship games. Reynolds led the Spartans to a CIF Southern California Regional title in the 2016-17 season.
Reynolds was a walk-on coach, meaning he was not on the school staff or faculty.

“It’s his passion, it’s all those things that make a great coach,” Fox said. “Kevin was one of those guys who remembered the losses more than the wins. That has to do with his values.”
“He had so much attention to detail, making sure his guys were getting after it academically. He had a pretty infectious aura about him. When he walked on campus every kid knew who he was and he was a walk-on coach.”
He was an assistant coach at Servite in the 1994-95 season when a late-season coaching change moved Reynolds to head coach. He led the Friars to a CIF-SS championship game.
Reynolds was born in New Jersey. After his family moved to Orange County, he played basketball at Mater Dei.
He is survived by his wife Amy Reynolds and their son David.
