Ronaldo has still not signed a new contract at Al Nassr, with his deal running out at the end of the season.

And it has left his future at the Saudi Arabian side in doubt, with that doubt now being added to by Infantino.

Speaking to YouTuber and streamer IShowSpeed on Friday, the FIFA chief revealed: “Ronaldo might play for one of the teams as well at the Club World Cup. There are discussions…”

He then continued: “Yeah. Cristiano Ronaldo might play in the Club World Cup, yeah. There are discussions with some clubs.

“So if any club is watching and is interested in hiring Ronaldo for the Club World Cup…who knows, who knows.”

Following those comments, Ronaldo’s representatives have since spoken to The Athletic to express their frustration.

talkSPORT understands that Ronaldo could potentially sign a short-term deal at a Club World Cup team before returning to Al Nassr.

But there are said to be no plans for him to depart on a loan deal.

The 40-year-old has been reported to have received an offer from an unnamed Brazilian club to play at the Club World Cup.

If true, that would be one of Palmeiras, Fluminense, Flamengo and Botafogo, whose manager has spoken about the rumours.

There had also been claims that he could join forces with Lionel Messi and Inter Miami, but nothing seemed to advance on that.

However, Infantino’s comments will now reignite rumours of Ronaldo potentially joining a new club this summer.

At the end of June, his record-breaking contract will end and that means he will become a free agent if a new one isn’t agreed.

But with the Club World Cup starting on June 14, which is before his deal expires, a move would need to happen earlier.

Ronaldo hasn’t had a campaign to remember with Al Nassr.

His side missed out on the Saudi Pro League title and were knocked out of the AFC Champions League in the semi-finals.

The iconic striker has still scored 24 league goals in 29 appearances though, which sees him lead the Golden Boot race.

He’s currently in front of former Premier League striker Ivan Toney, who has just been recalled to the England squad.

Ronaldo’s ex-Real Madrid teammate Karim Benzema up there too.

FIFA would be desperate to get him scoring goals in the Club World Cup, with Infantino now stirring the pot further.

It is only a few weeks until things get started in the newly expanded competition, so Ronaldo’s future will need to be decided soon.

The Club World Cup will now have 32 teams competing for a prize of almost $100million, and one of them could well sign one of football’s greatest ever players.
