Arsenal Women have been crowned Champions League winners for a second time after beating Barcelona 1-0.
Stina Blackstenius scored the vital winner for the Gunners in Lisbon with 74 minutes played against the Spanish giants.
Blackstenius came off the bench to score the winning goal for ArsenalAFPArsenal thought they had taken the lead during the first half with an own-goal from Irene Paredes, but after an offside check, it was ruled out.
But substitute Blackstenius helped fire them over the line with what was a composed finish from inside the Barcelona box.
“What an unbelievable goal this is,” West Ham head coach Rehanne Skinner said on commentary for talkSPORT.
“It’s from a corner that they’re just so patient with, and then as the ball comes out to [Mariona] Caldentey, she puts it to the edge of the box.
“Beth Mead just cuts inside, reverses it to Blackstenius, she’s 100 per cent onside. She has tucked that in so well on the half-turn, it’s a fantastic goal.
“What a great goal for Arsenal, fantastic, they deserve it, and Blackstenius has had an immediate impact in this game.”
It was a goal that has secured the club’s second ever title in the Women’s Champions League.
Their first came in the 2006/07 season when they beat Swedish side Umea IK 1-0 with a stoppage-time winner from legend Alex Scott.
Arsenal have drawn level on two titles with Wolfsburg, Umea and Turbine Potsdam, with Lyon the leading winners on eight.
Not only this, the Gunners have extended their record of being the only British club to become Women’s Champions League winners.
