Baseball roundup: Mater Dei scores 6 runs in 7th to beat Simi Valley ...Middle East

Mater Dei trailed by four runs with two outs in the seventh inning, and scored six runs to edge Simi Valley 6-4 in the second round of the CIF-SS Division 2 playoffs Tuesday at Simi Valley High.

Cal signee Lawson Olmstead hit a two-run single to cut Simi Valley’s lead to 4-2. Sophomore Brady Guth hit a three-run home run to give Mater Dei (17-13) a 5-4 lead.

CJ Ciampa followed the home run with a single and scored on a RBI triple by Austin Gerken.

Landon Gordon pitched 3⅔ innings of scoreless relief to earn the win and allowed just one hit with five strikeouts.

Mater Dei will play at Foothill in the quarterfinals Friday.

Also in Division 2:

Servite 12, Canyon 1: Servite scored seven runs in the fourth inning in a dominant win over Canyon.

Princeton signee Tomas Cernius hit a home run, stole a base and had three RBIs for Servite (17-13). Michael Cabral had two hits with four RBIs and Matthew Figueroa had two hits with two RBIs.

USC signee Hayden Woodson had two hits with a double and Tommy Hauben had a double. Talan Larson allowed one run in five innings pitched.

Lorenzo Luevano had two hits with a RBI for Canyon (19-11) and Chip Mertz stole a base.

Servite will play Etiwanda in the quarterfinals Friday.

Fountain Valley 7, Trabuco Hills 0: Josh Grack pitched a two-hit shutout and had two RBIs for Fountain Valley (17-13) in a home win.

Mikey Patterson went 2 for 4 with a triple, two runs scored and a RBI. Miles Hiskey had two hits and drove in two runs for the Barons.

Evan Hall had both hits for Trabuco Hills (21-8-1).

Fountain Valley will travel to play Torrance in the quarter finals Friday.

Division 4:

South Torrance 2, Sonora 0: Caleb Orr pitched well for Sonora, but the Raiders managed only one hit against South Torrance.

Orr allowed one run with five hits and seven strikeouts in six innings. Ryan Lietzau had the lone hit for Sonora (17-13).

Division 6:

Estancia 11, Foothill Tech 1: Nico Viramontes allowed just one run in a complete game effort and added a triple with a RBI for Estancia.

Vaugh McCrea and Jacob Ramirez each drove in two runs for the Eagles. Sawyer Atkinson and Ramon Perez each had two hits with a RBI.

Estancia (17-13) will play Pacifica Christian in the quarterfinals Friday.

Pacifica Christian 5, Muir 0: John Coopman pitched five shutout innings with six strikeouts for Pacifica Christian.

John Peterson hit a triple for Pacifica Christian (14-11). Scout Escobedo and Carter Canada hit run-scoring singles and Jon Stone hit a sacrifice fly.

Division 8:

Valencia 11, Arroyo 8: Valencia had six different players drive in runs in a high-scoring win over Arroyo.

Johnny Castellanos had three hits with four RBIs for Valencia (11-14). Jackson Paine had two hits with two RBIs and Harper Johnson went 2 for 2 with a RBI.

Lorenzo Duran had two hits including a double and Vicente Ybarra drove in two runs. Valencia will play San Bernardino in the quarter finals.

La Quinta 3, Cate 2: Johnny Forte pitched a complete game and scattered nine hits for La Quinta.

Riley Rakowski had two hits including a double and a RBI. Felix Perez went 1 for 2 with a RBI and Ray Solis added a hit with two runs scored.

La Quinta (17-7) will play Filmore on the road in the quarterfinals.
