A fatal hit-and-run crash shut down Highway 67 in both directions through Lakeside for several hours early Sunday morning.
According to Onscene.Media, two motorcyclists were northbound on the 67 near Willow Rd. just after 1 a.m. Sunday when one of them was hit by a white SUV.
The vehicle then crashed into a streetlight. Its driver left the wreckage and fled on foot.
The California Highway Patrol subsequently declared a traffic alert and shut down the freeway in both directions for investigation and cleanup work.
The freeway was reopened at 3:54 a.m.
The investigation is continuing.
