"I feel like the last few years I got pretty heavy," Smith told People magazine in an interview published on May 16. "Every day, I would look in the mirror and I just felt bad about myself. I just was so depressed, and literally, I didn’t like the way I looked. I didn’t like the way my clothes fit. It's something I've been sad about for a long time."
Smith, 39, told the outlet that he was diagnosed with a respiratory infection in 2024 and it made him rethink his overall health. Though it wasn't easy, Smith explained that he started eating a more well-balanced diet by changing "little" things. The result? A 55-pound weight loss.
The "Set the World on Fire" singer has climbed the country music charts and has scooped up some impressive awards, including Billboard's Rookie of the Year and the ACM New Male Artist of the Year award.
According to his website, Smith has a number of upcoming shows scheduled, including quite a few stops on Jason Aldean's tour. He's also been promoting his new single, "Dads Don't Die," which will be released on May 23.
