MANOR, Texas (KXAN) — A substitute teacher has been fired from Lagos Elementary School after being arrested and charged with causing injury to a child, Manor ISD confirmed.

According to a letter sent to the campus community, Lagos Elementary School Principal Carolyn Parker said the charges stem from a report made at the campus.

Parker's letter went on to say an investigation quickly followed the complaint, and the employee was placed on leave. She stressed that the campus was dedicated to keeping students safe moving forward.

Lagos Elementary Community,

I wanted to personally share some difficult news with you. This morning, a now former substitute teacher was arrested on charges related to injury to a child. This arrest followed a report made at our campus and a thorough investigation into the validity of the matter.

Please know that as soon as we received the report, the employee was immediately placed on leave. Rest assured that this individual is no longer employed by Manor ISD, and we are fully committed to ensuring a safe and supportive environment for our students.

We understand that news like this can be alarming, but know that the safety and well-being of our students are always our top priority. Our goal is to hire the very best educators, including substitutes, and we follow a rigorous hiring process to ensure that every individual who joins our district undergoes a comprehensive background check and all required screenings.

A special meeting of the Manor ISD school board is set for this Saturday afternoon. A spokesperson with the district said this arrest and that meeting are unrelated.
