Kylian Mbappe set another Real Madrid record as his side kept their faint title hopes alive.

The Frenchman was on the scoresheet in their last-gasp victory over Mallorca in LaLiga on Wednesday night.

In doing so, he surpassed a feat that was previously achieved 71 years ago by club icon Alfredo Di Stefano.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side headed into their penultimate home match of the season with their title aspirations hanging by a thread.

Following their El Clasico defeat, the Spanish giants trailed bitter rivals Barcelona by seven points with just three matches remaining.

Despite Mbappe’s second half equaliser, Barca looked set to all but secure their 28th title as full time approached.

However, Jacobo Ramon’s winner in the fifth minute of stoppage-time snatched all three points for the hosts at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The goal cuts Barcelona’s lead at the top of the table to four points ahead of their clash with Espanyol on Thursday.

A win for the leaders would clinch the title with two matches to spare.

Real Madrid’s faltering title challenge comes despite a record-breaking debut season for Mbappe.

The forward’s latest strike was his 28th LaLiga effort since joining from Paris Saint-Germain.

It means the 26-year-old has now overtaken Di Stefano for the most LaLiga goals scored by a player in their first season at Real Madrid.

The Argentine legend previously scored 27 league goals during the 1953/54 campaign after arriving in Madrid from Millionarios.

Di Stefano went on to score 308 goals in 396 appearances for Los Blancos during 11 years with the club.

Only Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Raul have scored more goals for Real Madrid.

As for Mbappe, it is yet another record for the World Cup winner this term.

His hat-trick in El Clasico on Sunday had already taken his tally in all competitions to 39.

It also broke Ivan Zamorano’s 32-year record for the most goals for the club in a debut season.

Mbappe has now extended his own record to 40 in 53 appearances by scoring against Mallorca.

He had already shattered Ronaldo’s maiden tally for Real Madrid, with the Portuguese scoring 33 times after his move from Manchester United in the 2009/10 season.
