Biggest storylines for every one of the Cardinals’ 2025 opponents ...Middle East

Sport by : (Arizona sports) -

Football is one step closer to returning with the release of the 2025 regular season schedule on Wednesday.

For the Arizona Cardinals, the upcoming season includes two primetime games. They will host the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday Night Football in Week 4 and travel to the Dallas Cowboys in Week 9 for Monday Night Football.

A look at Arizona’s full slate of games with insight on each opponent:

The Cardinals’ 2025 NFL schedule

WEEK 1 — at New Orleans Saints

Projected win total: 6.5

The Saints opted against taking rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders and instead used their first two picks on Texas OT Kelvin Banks Jr. (first round) and QB Tyler Shough (second round).

New Orleans needs all the help it can get after a 5-12 mark last year that saw both sides of the football in the bottom halves of league rankings.

Biggest addition: S Justin Reid

Reid is coming off his third season with Kansas City where he registered 87 tackles, two picks and nine passes defensed across 16 starts.

Biggest subtraction: CB Paulson Adebo

The 2021 third-round pick appeared in 52 games (51 starts) in four seasons with the Saints.

Despite missing 10 games last year due to a broken femur, Adebo still managed to snag three interceptions and 10 passes defensed before going down.

WEEK 2 — vs. Carolina Panthers

Projected win total: 6.5

It looks like Bryce Young has earned the confidence of the new regime after making 12 starts for the Panthers last season.

Carolina is still well behind the eight ball when it comes to constructing a winning roster.

Biggest addition: WR Tetairoa McMillan

Carolina entered the offseason needing some major help in the wide-receiving department. It got just that by taking the former Wildcat with the No. 8 overall pick.

McMillan heads to the Panthers after reeling in 84 catches for 1,319 yards and eight touchdowns in his final season at Arizona (12 games played).

Biggest subtraction: S Xavier Woods

Woods spent the past three seasons with Carolina. His best season came in 2024 when the safety recorded 119 tackles, three interceptions and six passes defensed in 17 starts.

He now heads to Tennessee.

WEEKS 3 & 11 — at/vs. San Francisco 49ers

Projected win total: 10.5

The 49ers fell flat on their faces last season behind a 6-11 record. A mass exodus followed this offseason, with a handful of key contributors heading elsewhere. The free-agent returns were limited, though San Francisco did stop some of the bleeding with the addition of Mykel Williams in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft.

But while the door seems like it’s just about shut on any kind of Super Bowl aspirations, San Francisco is still being viewed as a double-digit win team.

A big reason for that? Head coach Kyle Shanahan.

The 49ers could easily be the toughest out for the Cardinals this season. They were just that not too long ago. But with so much turnover, they could also fail to find consistency and turn in a similar showing to 2024.

Potentially volatile is the phrase attached to the 2025 49ers this offseason.

Biggest addition: Pass rusher Mykel Williams

The No. 11 overall pick gives San Francisco its pass rusher for years to come after racking up 14 sacks and 23 tackles for loss across three seasons at Georgia.

Biggest subtraction: Pass rusher Leonard Floyd

While some may see the departure of wide receiver Deebo Samuel as the biggest loss for the 49ers, he was trending downward the past few seasons as it was.

Instead, losing a veteran pass rusher like Leonard Floyd, who has a proven track record of production and availability, takes the cake.

Even with the addition of Williams, losing Floyd’s 8.5 sacks and eight tackles for loss is going to be tough to replace.

WEEK 4 & 10 — vs./at Seattle Seahawks

Projected win total: 7.5

Despite a second-place finish in the NFC West, the Seahawks underwent quite the change this offseason, highlighted by big-time departures at wide receiver (D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett) and quarterback (Geno Smith).

The defense, however, is expected to take a step forward under defensive minded second-year head coach Mike MacDonald.

Biggest addition: QB Sam Darnold

The Seahawks are clearly banking on Darnold’s career stretch with the Minnesota Vikings, where he completed 66.2% of his throws for 4,319 yards and 35 touchdowns to 12 interceptions, continues in Seattle.

It’s certainly a gamble, being that Darnold hadn’t hit scored double digit touchdowns since 2019 before last year’s stellar showing.

Biggest subtraction: QB Geno Smith

In with one signal caller, out with the other.

The Seahawks moved on from the Smith experiment this offseason via a trade with the Las Vegas Raiders that brought back a third-round pick used on Alabama QB Jalen Milroe.

Since taking over as Seattle’s full-time QB in 2022, Smith went 27-22, completing 68.5% of his passes for 12,226 yards and 71 touchdowns to 35 interceptions.

WEEK 5 — vs. Tennessee Titans

Projected win total: 5.5

The Titans are onto their next franchise quarterback after taking Cam Ward with the No. 1 overall pick in this year’s draft.

With a defense that ranked second last year in total yards allowed (311.2 per game), the offense is going to have a whole lot of eyeballs on it.

Biggest addition: QB Cam Ward

If the Titans are going to turn their franchise around, it starts with Ward.

The rookie enters his new digs after completing 67.2% of his throws for 4,313 yards and 39 touchdowns to seven interceptions.

Biggest subtraction: Pass rusher Harold Landry

The 2018 second-round pick had spent all of his time with Tennessee before signing with the New England Patriots this offseason.

Landry is coming off nine sacks, 15 tackles for loss and 15 QB hits in 17 starts last season.

WEEK 6 — at Indianapolis Colts

Projected win total: 7.5

A middle-of-the-road 8-9 record last season was highlighted by Antohny Richardson going down with a season-ending knee injury.

Veteran Joe Flacco filled in the rest of the way, though posted a 2-4 record across six starts.

Indianapolis’ struggles weren’t just on the offensive side of the ball, either, with the defense finishing in the bottom five last year in total yards allowed (361.2 per game).

Biggest addition: CB Charvarius Ward

Ward spent the last three seasons in San Francisco, recording six interceptions, 41 passes defensed and 213 tackles across 46 games (all starts) for the 49ers.

He now joins a Colts secondary that includes Kenny Moore II, who was put on skates by Marvin Harrison Jr. during joint practice work last year.

Biggest subtraction: C Ryan Kelly

Kelly has been a mainstay within the interior of Indianapolis’ O-line, making 121 starts for the franchise across nine seasons.

The four-time Pro Bowler now heads to the Vikings.

WEEK 7 — vs. Green Bay Packers

Projected win total: 9.5

The Packers found themselves back in the postseason last year but ran into the eventual Super Bowl champs in the Wild Card Round.

Still, the team took another step forward under quarterback Jordan Love, improving its win total from nine to 11 and posting a top five offense (370.8 yards per game).

Biggest addition: WR Matthew Golden

Yes, former Cardinals star backer Isaiah Simmons signed with Green Bay this offseason.

No, he’s not its biggest addition.

Instead, that honor belongs to 2025 first-rounder and wide receiver Matthew Golden.

If there was one area missing from Green Bay’s offense last year, it was a legit No. 1 receiving option.

Golden, who racked up 987 yards and nine touchdowns for Texas last year, followed that up with an impressive NFL Draft Combine highlighted by a 4.29-second 40-yard dash.

Biggest subtraction: Tedarrell Slaton

Slaton didn’t miss a game for the Packers across four seasons of work.

During that time, he recorded two sacks, six tackles for loss and three QB hits in 68 career games (36 starts).

WEEK 8 — BYE

WEEK 9 — at Dallas Cowboys

Projected win total: 7.5

The Cowboys enter a new era with first-time head coach Brian Schottenheimer leading the way following a 7-10 mark last year.

The Cardinals will also get a look at former OL coach Klayton Adams, who is now the Dallas OC.

Biggest addition: WR George Pickens

The 2022 second-round pick is one of the latest additions to the Cowboys following a trade that also included late-round draft capital last week.

The former Pittsburgh Steeler reeled in 59 catches for 900 yards and three touchdowns last year with the franchise.

Biggest subtraction: OG Zack Martin

Martin calls it a career after starting 162 games for the Cowboys across 11 seasons that included nine All-Pro nods.

WEEK 12 — vs. Jacksonville Jaguars

Projected win total: 7.5

Much like the Cowboys, the Jaguars are undergoing quite the organizational change, with first-year head coach Liam Coen taking the reins.

There are some familiar faces in Jacksonville, too, with former Cardinals pass game specialist Spencer Whipple (quarterbacks coach) and ex-defensive line coach Derrick LeBlanc (assistant DL) on staff.

Biggest addition: WR/CB Travis Hunter

The Jaguars made waves this past NFL Draft with a trade up the first round for the versatile Hunter.

The athlete is expected to continue playing on both sides of the football, though the exact splits in time are unknown.

Biggest subtraction: TE Evan Engram

Before signing with the Denver Broncos this offseason, Engram spent the past three seasons in Jacksonville. He recorded 234 catches for 2,094 yards and nine touchdowns during that span.

He appeared in just nine games last year due to a hamstring issue and torn labrum.

WEEK 13 — at Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Projected win total: 9.5

It’s been a career revival for quarterback Baker Mayfield after coming aboard with the Buccaneers in 2023.

Since he came to town, the Buccaneers have finished first in the division, though have just one postseason win to show for the past two seasons.

Biggest addition: Pass rusher Haason Reddick

The Cardinals will face yet another former player in Reddick this year.

After two years in Philadelphia and a one-year stint in New York, Reddick heads to his fifth team in six years.

Can he stick in Tampa Bay?

Since leaving the Cardinals in 2021, Reddick’s registered 51.5 sacks, 53 tackles for loss and 14 forced fumbles in 76 games played (63 starts).

Biggest subtraction: LB K.J. Britt

Britt spent the past four years with the Buccaneers after coming aboard as a 2021 fifth-round pick.

He appeared in 59 games (15 starts) for Tampa Bay, recording 126 tackles, three passes defensed and two QB hits.

WEEKS 14 & 18 — vs./at Los Angeles Rams

Projected win total: 9.5

The Rams saw their fair share of movement this offseason but did a good job at replenishing the cupboards coming off a 10-7 mark and NFC West title.

And with head coach Sean McVay still running the show, you can never really count out L.A. — like many of us did early last year.

Biggest addition: WR Davante Adams

There were two big changes within the Rams’ WRs room this offseason, with one of them being the addition of Adams.

While he’s a few years removed from his last season with double-digit touchdowns (2022), Adams still managed to reel in eight scores in 14 games split between the Las Vegas Raiders (one TD in three games) and New York Jets (seven TDs in 11 games).

Maybe getting out from under the shadow of Aaron Rodgers will help get Adams back playing like a top NFL wideout once again.

Biggest subtraction: WR Cooper Kupp

Adding Adams was imperative for the Rams after the team released Kupp, who went on to sign with the Seattle Seahawks.

Kupp has been a far cry from his Offensive Player of the Year honors in 2021, Kupp hasn’t seen fewer than five touchdowns and 710 yards in each of the past three seasons.

His presence in the locker room will be missed in L.A.

WEEK 15 — at Houston Texans

Projected win total: 9.5

The Texans have posted back-to-back 10-7 marks with a pair of postseason berths since quarterback C.J. Stroud came to town (with a little help from the Cardinals on draft night).

Houston’s defense was far from a problem area, too, landing in the top five for fewest yards allowed last season (315 per game).

The Texans present one of the tougher opponents on Arizona’s schedule in 2025.

Biggest addition: OG Laken Tomlinson

Tomlinson comes over from a lone season in Seattle having started every game since 2018. He’s missed only one game in his 10-year career.

Biggest subtraction: S Eric Murray

Murray spent the past five seasons with Houston. He’s coming off his best season as a pro behind 75 tackles, an interception and 10 passes defensed in 17 games played (14 starts).

WEEK 16 — vs. Atlanta Falcons

Projected win total: 7.5

Kirk Cousins is still on the roster, but all signs point to second-year pro Michael Penix running the show in Atlanta this year.

And while he may not be the scariest QB option in the league, running back Bijan Robinson packs and added punch for the unit.

Biggest addition: Pass rusher Leonard Floyd

Biggest subtraction: DL Grady Jarrett

Jarrett had been with Atlanta since joining the team as a fifth-rounder in 2015.

He appeared in 152 career games (137 starts) for the Falcons, with his best season coming in 2019. Jarrett recorded 7.5 sacks, 12 tackles for loss, two forced fumbles and 16 QB hits across 16 starts.

WEEK 17 — at Cincinnati Bengals

Projected win total: 9.5

The Bengals turned in a pedestrian 9-8 record but return heavy hitters Joe Burrow, Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins that were crucial in the team’s No. 1 passing attack.

Cincinnati’s defense, which finished near the bottom of the league in total yards allowed (348.3), remains the team’s biggest liability.

Still, playoffs should be on the menu for Burrow and Co. in 2025.

Biggest addition: DT Tedarrell Slaton

The defensive lineman heads over after four years with the Green Bay Packers. He didn’t miss a game during that span and made 36 starts.

He earns the title of biggest addition, but the Bengals and wide receiver Tee Higgins working out a contract extension is the biggest move the team made this offseason.

Biggest subtraction: OG Alex Cappa

Cappa missed just one start for the Bengals since 2020.

The guard did not miss an offensive snap in three out of five seasons.
