Rory McIlroy finally captured his career grand slam.
Could Jordan Spieth be the next name to join golf’s history list?
Jordan Spieth could have a career-changing win at Quail HollowGettyThat looming question would have been laughable in past years, as Spieth struggled to stay in sight of leader boards in tournaments across the country.
But Spieth is just 31, he’s coming off a strong tied-for-14th finish at the Masters, and the only major title the Dallas native is missing is the PGA Championship.
Which means, like McIlroy, a return to Quail Hollow could be perfect timing for Spieth.
“His game is turning around quite nicely,” Rich Beem, a Sky Sports golf analyst, exclusively told talkSPORT.
“Coming off that wrist injury surgery last fall, I think as a player it takes you a good amount of time to fully get past what happened when you were injured.
“Physically, everything could be perfect. But mentally you kind of still think, ‘Hey, last year when I did that, it really hurt, or this caused X, Y, Z to happen.’ And so sometimes you try and stay away from doing certain things that you could do when you were 10 years ago when you were pain free.
“I think Jordan’s finally kind of getting past that. What I saw last week in the times that I watched him, he’s got a ton of fight and heart in him left.”
Spieth also has 13 PGA Tour wins, 18 runner-up finishes, 56 top-five results and more than $64 million in career earnings.
In 2014-15, Spieth was one of the best golfers on the planet.
He won the US Open and Masters, adding two of the four grand slam events in one season.

“I love watching him when he’s playing well because it’s like a work of art,” Beem said.
“It’s just like he paints these beautiful masterpieces. And sometimes he paints outside the lines a little bit. But, listen, so does Seve Ballesteros.”
A long-delayed follow-up masterpiece will change everything for Spieth, who’s sometimes made headlines for the wrong reasons.
As the 2025 PGA Championship begins at Quail Hollow, Scottie Scheffler, McIlroy, Xander Schauffele and Ludvig Aberg are favorites, while Bryson DeChambeau is a YouTube and LIV star.
Spieth ranks 48th in the Official World Golf Rankings, and appears to once again be on the up after finishing 69th at the end of 2024.
Beem believes that Spieth has the talent and drive to complete a career slam, joining Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods in golf history.
That all-time honor might not arrive until 2027, when the PGA Championship takes over Frisco, Texas.
“That would be like the hometown guy finally completes a career grand slam,” Beem said.
“That’s a walk-off moment right there.”
Whether Spieth completes his career slam this weekend or in ’27, Beem said one part of his retooled approach must change.
“I think that he just needs to get back to just thinking about his score again,” Beem said
“Over the last couple of years, I’ve seen him kind of do some funky things. … Jordan did very well when he played the game.
“Over the last couple of years, it looks like he’s playing his swing. He’s trying to find his swing.
“Listen, there’s no finding a swing in 62 — 62 is just putting up a solid number. … If he can kind of bottle that up and take it with him a little bit then, yeah, sure, he’ll be dangerous.”
