(KRON) – Many students rely on free or reduced-cost school meals. Per the City of Oakland, more than 30,000 students depend on school lunches. Without school in the summertime, some students are left without resources for lunch.
East Bay Community Foundation (EBCF), Eat. Learn. Play., and Alameda County Community Food Bank are collaborating this summer to ensure disadvantaged children who are under the age of 18 and adults with disabilities enrolled in a school program have lunches this summer.
Most of the locations will open for all youth. However, a few will only offer meals to children who are enrolled in a summer program, per the city of Oakland.
The CEO of EBCF President Brandi Howard said, “The simple truth is that children can’t learn if they aren’t fed. We’re proud to partner with other East Bay leaders to protect this critical program on behalf of Oakland’s children.”
Stephen and Ayesha Curry step in to help Oakland schools plagued by lead in waterLibraries, recreation centers and community centers will be the site locations for the free lunches. Meal times for all the sites are from noon to 1 p.m.
This initiative is from May 27 through August 8 (varying sites operate on different dates).
Per the city of Oakland, here is the list of sites for lunch.
