Microsoft laying off 3 percent of global workforce, according to report ...Middle East

(KRON) -- Microsoft is reportedly laying off 3% of its global workforce. The job cuts are coming across all levels, teams and locations, according to a report in CNBC.

As of last year, Microsoft had around 228,000 employees so the latest job cuts are set to impact over 6,000 workers.

"We continue to implement organizational changes necessary to best position the company for success in a dynamic marketplace," a Microsoft spokesperson said to The Verge.

The latest round of layoffs looks to be the largest job cuts at the tech giant since it laid off 10,000 people back in 2023. Earlier this year, Microsoft announced performance-based job cuts impacting less than 1% of the company's employees.

These latest job cuts are not related to performance, according to a spokesperson cited by MSNBC.

Microsoft's reported job cuts are just the latest in an ongoing series of tech layoffs. On Monday, education technology company Chegg announced plans to cut 250 jobs.
