The restaurant chain plans to open four locations across the Miami Valley in the coming year.
Layne’s Chicken Fingers – founded in 1994 in College Station, Texas – is banking on the Ohio market as part of its aggressive expansion strategy.
The chain, known for its signature chicken fingers and house-made sauces, is actively scouting locations for its debut in the Dayton region.
The rising chain has been compared favorably against rivals including Popeyes and Chick-fil-A.
“Their new spicy chicken tender is really good!!” a fan wrote on Facebook.
“Better [than] Chick-fil-a or Popeyes as far as spice hands down!!”
Franchisees Mauricio Blanco and Marvin Monroy are in charge of the operation, with plans to introduce the brand to the area as soon as possible.
“The chicken finger space has been particularly successful in Ohio, and more specifically in Dayton,” Blanco said.
The pair has a wealth of experience in the food industry between the two of them.
Blanco owns multiple Pollo Campero locations, and Monroy operates a construction company that employs more than 100 people.
The franchisees were introduced to Layne’s just six months ago and were quickly won over by the brand.
Layne’s menu features fried or grilled chicken served in sandwiches, wraps, or classic baskets, complemented by sides like fries and milkshakes.
Diners can choose from six sauces made in-house daily: Layne’s Sauce, honey mustard, jalapeño ranch, buttermilk ranch, BBQ, and gravy.
“We’re selling a product,” Blanco said.
“The more units we can open, as fast as we can do it, would allow us to expand the brand and let people try it and see for themselves that this is a good product.”
The initial focus is on building awareness in Dayton, but the team sees potential to grow to “at least” six locations in the area.
Huber Heights is currently a top contender for the first location, though no sites have been officially confirmed.
The franchisees are prioritizing second-generation spaces to enable quicker buildouts.
Once leases are signed, each location is expected to take roughly six months to open.
Layne’s began franchising in 2021 and currently operates more than 25 restaurants across Texas and other states including Arkansas, Pennsylvania, Utah, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.
The first Ohio location will open soon in Parma, with Dayton next on the map.
Blanco and Monroy say their current focus is on the Dayton market, but they’re open to future expansion into Cincinnati or Columbus.
“This is a major opportunity for us and for Dayton,” said Blanco.
“We’re excited to introduce Layne’s to the community.”
