OFFICIALS have issued an urgent warning over a bankruptcy pharmacy chain to use all gift cards, coupons and rewards soon.

Rite Aid has confirmed that all of its 178 locations in New York state will close as a result of the Chapter 11 news, including 18 on Long Island.
Rite Aid CEO Matt Schroeder said: “As we move forward, our key priorities are ensuring uninterrupted pharmacy services for our customers and preserving jobs for as many associates as possible.
“For more than 60 years, Rite Aid has been a proud provider of pharmacy services and products to our loyal customers.
“While we have continued to face financial challenges, intensified by the rapidly evolving retail and healthcare landscapes in which we operate, we are encouraged by meaningful interest from a number of potential national and regional strategic acquirors.
“As we move forward, our key priorities are ensuring uninterrupted pharmacy services for our customers and preserving jobs for as many associates as possible.

Layoffs for the New York locations are set to begin on June 4.
It is not yet known if any more stores will have to close as a result of the May bankruptcy announcement.

And just two days after that, on June 6, will be the last day shoppers have to use their Rite Aid coupons, gift cards and rewards.
WFMZ reports that Rite Aid will also stop accepting returns or exchanges on June 4.
This gives customers less than a month to use their savings, as warned by the Pennsylvania Attorney General.
They said: “I am encouraging Rite Aid customers to make returns and exchanges, and redeem gift cards and rewards points as soon as possible.
“These deadlines are approaching fast, and accrued points and gift card balances will soon become valueless.”
This means that you will lose any value you had on Rite Aid gift cards and coupons.
What to look out for when buying gift cards
When buying a gift card, be sure to check the back of the packaging.
If it is ripped or damaged in any way, it could have been opened by a fraudster.
If you buy a gift card and the redemption code on the back is damaged and unusable, call the store where you purchased the card and contact the gift card company immediately.
Be sure to also keep the gift card receipt.
It is important to note that potential returns are still subject to Rite Aid’s refund and exchange policy.
The deadline was established during talks with Rite Aid and government officials.
There is the chance that customers could run into issues using them, but there is advice on how to get around it.
