Chloe Humphrey scored four goals to become the highest-scoring freshman in NCAA history Sunday afternoon, and No. 1 UNC cruised past Clemson into the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament with an 18-9 win.

Humphrey’s four goals gave her 77 on the season, surpassing the previous freshman record of 74. She scored three goals in rapid succession in the second quarter to help UNC build a 9-5 halftime lead, accumulating a hat trick in a span of 9:05 of game time. Her fourth came midway through the third quarter, helping the Tar Heels slowly but surely pull away.
In the second half, it was Marissa White who did much of the damage for Carolina. The redshirt sophomore scored three consecutive goals in a span of 4:42, giving her five for the day and putting UNC ahead 16-7. Kiley Mottice also finished with a hat trick, while Addison Pattillo and Kaleigh Harden each scored twice. UNC never trailed.
Carolina has now beaten Clemson three times during the 2025 season, with each victory coming by at least nine goals. In total, 14 of UNC’s 19 wins this season have come by a margin of nine goals or greater.
With the win, UNC is now 19-0 on the season and through to the NCAA quarterfinals. The Tar Heels will once again host at Dorrance Field and will face either No. 8 overall seed Johns Hopkins or unseeded Princeton. The game is scheduled for Thursday, May 15, with a start time to be announced later.
