GROVEPORT, Ohio (WCMH) – The owner of a decades-old central Ohio pizzeria has transformed the building that housed the eatery’s prior location into a coffee shop.
Main Ground Coffee launched at 619 Main St. in Groveport this spring. The address was formerly home to Little Italy Ristorante, which relocated within the city to a spot with a larger kitchen, at 480 Main St., in 2023. The family-owned pizzeria had occupied the space since 1979.
The owner of Little Italy, Avery Ward, said he founded the new coffee shop after seeing a need for a local coffee shop in Groveport.
“[Our name] is super layered,” Ward said. “Obviously we're on Main Street. We grind coffee, so ‘ground.’ But most importantly, it's our main ground and it's where our family business journey started, and now we're continuing that story in a whole new way.”
Main Ground Coffee serves a variety of beverages, including hot, iced and frozen coffees, along with tea and smoothies. The business sources its coffee beans from the Columbus-based roaster Crimson Cup. It also serves breakfast and lunch sandwiches, pastries, muffins, croissants, egg bites and yogurt parfaits.
Eventually, Ward said he would like to expand the coffee joint to include a patio and an extended menu. He also has plans to grow the concept with more locations.
“This is just the beginning for Main Ground,” Ward said. “Our goal is to create memorable experiences for our customers time and time again.”
Main Ground Coffee is open Mondays through Fridays from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sundays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“We're not just slinging coffee, we're truly telling a story and every guest that comes in our door is a part of it,” Ward said. “So if you're in Groveport swing by, and it's not just our main ground, it's yours too.”
