The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will restart the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 by May 15 or 16. The development comes hours after India and Pakistan together announced a ceasefire. According to the Times of India, the BCCI are planning to resume cricket exactly in a week.
The BCCI will now finalise the remaining schedule. We heard earlier that 4-5 venues could be picked to play the remaining matches. But since normalcy has returned, barring Dharamshala, we might see games played at all other venues.
Will foreign players return for IPL 2025?
The issue that BCCI might face would be regarding the availability of foreign players. On May 9, BCCI had announced that they are halting IPL 2025 for one week. Soon after, everyone, including players, commentators and support staff, left for their homes. Although a ceasefire has been announced, some players might still be apprehensive about returning.
“Yes, the overseas players were panicking, but it was more because of the airport shutdown and all. They patiently listened to the franchises and had full confidence, but it was the fear of international airports getting shut which triggered a lot of panic,” a source told the Times of India.
Dhumal confident in overseas cricketers coming back to India
However, the IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal thinks that foreign players won’t have an issue with returning back to India. It was natural that in such a tense situation, overseas cricketers would like to return home. But things have returned to normal.
“I am sure foreign players would want to come back and be part of the tournament. As the IPL was suspended for one week, everybody wanted to go back to their loved ones. We will review the situation and accordingly keep all the stakeholders informed, including our franchise owners,” he added.
