A woman died after being struck by a vehicle in a Ukiah parking lot earlier this week, the Ukiah Police Department reported Thursday.
According to the UPD, officers were dispatched to the gas station/convenience store at the corner of Talmage Road and Airport Park Boulevard shortly after 3 p.m. May 5 when it was reported that a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle.
The UPD explains that the incident was “initially reported to be a hit and run, however when UPD Officers arrived they found the involved driver had not left the scene. The pedestrian, an adult female subject, was located lying on the ground in a parking stall in front of the business (in the 1100 block of Airport Park Boulevard, and that) emergency medical personnel were also dispatched to the scene to render aid to the injured female pedestrian.”
Officers reported learning that “moments before the collision, the pedestrian had stumbled and fallen to the ground. While the female was still laying on the ground, she was subsequently driven into by the driver of the involved vehicle which was attempting to park at the business.”
The UPD describes the pedestrian as having sustained “serious injuries as a result (of being struck by a vehicle) and was ultimately transported by air ambulance to an out of area trauma center.” However, the UPD reports being notified “the following morning (that the woman) had died from her injuries.” In its press release, the UPD provided no name, age or city of residence for the victim.
It described the incident as “currently under further investigation by UPD Detectives as well as a UPD Traffic Officer specializing in traffic collisions. A determination will be made regarding any potential criminal conduct by the driver involved in this incident.”
