Rangers v Celtic prediction

Celtic will be in extremely jubilant mood heading into the final Old Firm derby of the season having wrapped up their fourth consecutive Premiership title and a 13th in the last 14 years, drawing level with Rangers’ record of 55 league titles.

Brendan Rodgers’ side make the short trip to Ibrox on Sunday lunchtime having won their last three matches, scoring five goals in each, with their 5-0 win at Dundee United last Saturday giving them an unassailable 17 point lead at the top of the table with just four matches of the season remaining.

The Bhoys boast by far the best record away from home in the Scottish Premiership this season, but have only won five of their last 13 matches on the road in all competitions since early December, which could go against them on Sunday afternoon.

It’s been a disappointing campaign for Rangers, falling well short in the league and will end the season without a trophy to their name having lost the League Cup final to Celtic, their Europa League quarter final to Athletic Bilbao, and most painfully, a 1-0 home defeat to Queen’s Park in the FA Cup.

Barry Ferguson’s side haven’t won any of their last five matches in preparation for Sunday’s derby, while the Scot is also yet to win a match at Ibrox since taking over the club on a temporary basis following the sacking of Philippe Clement in February.

Rangers will take confidence in the knowledge that they have won the last two Old Firm derbies, including a 3-0 victory in their last meeting at Ibrox, and the side have tended to fair better against the ‘better’ teams since Ferguson took over, who won at Parkhead in the league back in March.

The contrast in form in recent weeks has Celtic odds on favourites for victory on Sunday – I think a close game could be on the cards but expect the champions to get the job done, a 3-2 away win seemingly more than a possibility.

Celtic (4-3-3): Sinisalo; Johnston, Carter-Vickers, Scales, Taylor; Engels, McGregor, Hatate; Kuhn, Maeda, Jota

Rangers v Celtic betting tips

Daizen Maeda to score – 11/10 with bet365 Celtic to win and both teams to score – 21/10 with bet365

Rangers v Celtic bet builder

Celtic to win, both teams to score, Daizen Maeda to score, Nicolas Raskin to be carded, over four goals – 20/1 with bet365

Celtic have won each of their last three matches and scored five goals in each of those, while Rangers are winless in their last five matches in all competitions, with caretaker manager Barry Ferguson yet to win a home game in his tenure.

Celtic winger Daizen Maeda leads the Scottish Premiership’s goal and assist tallies, and has eight goals in his last seven league games ahead of Sunday’s Old Firm, including a goal in this fixture back in March.

No player on either side has been on the receiving end of more yellow cards this season than Rangers midfielder Nicolas Raskin.
