Arizona State’s Cam Skattebo was selected 105th overall in the fourth round of the in the 2025 NFL Draft by the New York Giants.

Skattebo had a historic final collegiate season, leading the Big 12 with 1,711 rushing yards (5.8 yards per carry) along with 21 rushing touchdowns. He picked up 605 receiving yards and three touchdowns through the air for good measure.

If he hadn’t already, Skattebo smashed through the doorway to national attention by almost singlehandedly leading ASU back into the thick of a College Football Playoff quarterfinal against a Texas defense filled with future NFL players.

In the double-overtime Peach Bowl loss, he totaled 143 yards and two touchdowns rushing, 99 yards receiving and he threw a 42-yard touchdown.

With his balanced combination of rushing and receiving production, he became the first player with at least 1,500 yards on the ground and 500 yards through the air since Christian McCaffrey did so in his sophomore season at Stanford (2015).

For his efforts that included leading the Sun Devils to a Big 12 Championship in their first season in the conference, Skattebo finished top-five in Heisman Trophy voting.

“You want to draft him,” ASU head coach Kenny Dillingham on April 1 said he tells NFL scouts. “He can do so many things that … if you’re a team that relies on matchups — truly looks for matchups — he’s a nightmare.

“Because you can line him up at running back, you can line him up in the slot, you can line him up as a No. 1 receiver, you can line him up in the wildcat quarterback, you can run the ball in short-yardage downs. Like he can do so many things for you that his versatility is such a weapon and he’s so intelligent that he can do it all.”

Cam Skattebo’s pre-draft process

With quite a statement made in the playoff, many NFL scouts remained eager to see how the back would perform at the NFL Scouting Combine.

Skattebo played his cards close to his chest, electing to only participate in the vertical and broad jumps and put off a 40-yard dash for a later pro day.

His 39.5-inch vertical caught the attention of many, but ASU running backs coach Shaun Aguano said he wasn’t surprised by it at all.

ESPN's Matt Miller: Cam Skattebo's 40-yard dash time doesn't matter: 'The rest is on tape'

“What people don’t understand about Cam (is) he’s an incredible athlete,” Aguano told Arizona Sports in March. “If you go bowling, he can bowl. If you go play pool, he can play pool. If you go play basketball, he can play basketball. … So the athletic ability of him, it’s not surprising and he’s so explosive.”

The vertical tied for second-best among 2025 running backs, and it ranked in the 93rd percentile at the position dating back to the 1999 combine. He was 12th out of 23 running backs at this combine with a 10-foot, 3-inch broad jump.

When time came for the 40-yard dash, he ran it in the low 4.6-second range, which is what many draft experts had projected.

“He ran a time that’s what everybody thought he was going to run, so I think people should judge him off his tape,” ASU head coach Kenny Dillingham said on April 1.

“Dude plays with such a passion, such an aggressiveness, such great contact balance,” the coach continued. “His short area quickness is elite. His vertical jump shows his power he has, which is why he has the contact balance. When everything checks out, it’s not like, ‘Oh, does he really have the contact balance?’ It’s all the things that show his athleticism have checked out.”

Skattebo reportedly had top 30 visits with at least five teams, including the Arizona Cardinals, Cleveland Browns and New York Giants.
