Chennai Super Kings coach Stephen Fleming did not shy away from admitting that the team had gotten the auction strategy wrong. CSK slumped to their 7th defeat in IPL 2025 after being handed a 5-wicket loss by SRH. The five-time champions are on the verge of being eliminated from the season and virtually stand no chance of making it to the playoffs.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Fleming noted that other teams had gotten better after the auction while CSK did not. He admitted that the side was currently looking into changing the way they approached T20s and that it wasn’t easy for CSK to evolve at the pace with which the game was doing so. Incidentally, CSK have used 20 out of 27 players in their squad but are yet to find the right composition.
“We have been able to be consistent for so long and it doesn’t take much for it to go another way. Other teams have got better and that is the point of the auction. But we just haven’t been able to get it right,” Fleming said.
However, the CSK coach pointed out that the team faced several setbakcs in the form of injuries and lack of form.
“A couple of key injuries, just a bit of a lack of form. And we have just struggled really to nail a game plan. We’ve chopped and changed too much. I think it was trying to look for something that perhaps we felt wasn’t there,” he added.

Sunrisers Hyderabad beat Chennai Super Kings by 5 wickets to stay alive in the playoff race. Kamindu Mendis and Nitish Kumar Reddy stitched together a half-century stand for 6th wicket to chase down 155 after Ishan Kishan scored 44.
CSK were bowled out for 154 as Harshal Patel bagged 4/28. Dewald Brevis was the star for CSK with 25-ball 42. But Kamindu Mendis’s wonder catch dismissed him. Ayush Mhatre once again gave CSK a good start with 19-ball 30. However, as the other batters failed, CSK gave away that advantage.
