University of Northern Colorado men’s golfer Antti Vahvaselka was named a Summit League honorable mention selection for the 2025 season, the league announced Friday.
Vahvaselka, a senior from Helsinki, Finland, was the only UNC golfer to earn all-league recognition in the program’s first year in the Summit League. The honor was the first in the Summit League for Vahvaselka, who is in his second season with the Bears after transferring from Division III Averett University in Danville, Virginia.
The 11 Summit League coaches picked the all-league first, second, honorable mention and freshman teams, according to the league.
UNC moved to the Summit League as of July 1, 2024 from the Big Sky Conference along with Weber State. The other men’s golf teams in the league are: the University of Denver, the University of Missouri-Kansas City, North Dakota, North Dakota State, University of Nebraska Omaha, Oral Roberts, South Dakota, South Dakota State, and St. Thomas.
A vote of the League’s 11 head coaches determined the all-league first and second teams, the honorable mention squad, and the all-freshman team, which is a new award for the 2025 campaign.
In eight events this spring, Vahvaselka’s best finish was a tie for 10th place at the Los Vaqueros Intercollegiate in early February in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico. He shot a season-best low round of 67 in a 24th-place finish at the Grand Canyon University Invitational in early March in Phoenix, Arizona.
Vahvaselka finished in the top 25 in three other events.
“Antti Vahvaselka has been a cornerstone of our program since the day he arrived,” UNC coach Clayton Sikorski said in a news release. “Earning All-Conference Honorable Mention in the Summit League this year is a testament to his consistency, resilience, and competitive spirit. To be recognized in his senior year speaks volumes about his dedication and the impact he’s had on our team. We’re incredibly proud of him.”
The three-day Summit League Championship begins Sunday at the Longbow Golf Course in Mesa, Arizona.
