Saturday horse racing tips
SANDOWN1.20: St Pancras 12/1 each-way (1pt)2.25: Gaelic Warrior 11/8 (2pts)3.00: Lucky Place 5/2 (1pt)3.35: Jonbon 4/7 (2pts – NAP)St Pancras
Really like this four-year-old gelding who’s shown he’s right up there at the top level.
Winning the listed Scottish Triumph hurdle in February before going on to place second at Kempton later that month in the Grade 2 Adonis Juvenile Hurdle.
He went on to win yet again and makes his first start in a handicap with plenty of appeal, as an each-way value bet.
As he’s just four he receives plenty of weight and could make the most of that with his ability.
Gaelic Warrior
One for the Willie Mullins and Paul Townend combo as the trainer really pushes for a British champion trainer title.
This horse makes all of the appeal at 11/8 facing some decent chasers but none that have the ability to progress still at the top level.
The seven-year-old beat Grey Dawning when stepping up in trip for the first time to beyond 3m and clearly has all of the stamina.
Dropping back to shy of 2m7f is encouraging after that Aintree victory and could be a big factor in the hunt for the trainer title race.
Lucky Place
James Bowen comes into replace the injured Nico de Boinville on Nicky Henderson’s Lucky Place.
The six-year-old is still very much developing and Seven Barrows thought he’d suit the step up in trip to 3m but clearly that coupled with stepping into a Grade 1 was too tough for the youngster.
His win over Gowel Road in January on New Year’s Day and victory ahead of Blueking d’Oroux are very encouraging and stepping back to 2m5f is a positive it seems.
This is a horse with some great form even in defeat placing behind the likes of Golden Ace, Gidleigh Park and Langer Dan in 2024 in succession which bodes well for more progression.
Jonbon
Mark Walsh takes the ride on the JP McManus-owned Jonbon though for Henderson’s super star and favourite in the bet365 Celebration Chase.
He’s confirmed time and time again he deserves all the plaudits, outside of Cheltenham, with a perfect record.
It won’t matter who rides him really, he’s got bags of ability and that winning mentality to go on and win here over course and distance again.
