Chris Eubank Jr vs Conor Benn has gripped the world and is on track to become one of the UK’s most iconic sporting rivalries.
Eubank and Benn will continue an iconic feud between two boxing family dynasties, which was began ion 1990 and 1993 in two epic battles between their fathers Chris and Nigel.
Eubank and Benn will meet 11 years on from Froch vs Groves 2Now the sons will carry the torch for their respective families, in a mega event in front of a sold out 65,000 capacity Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
There have been some iconic rivalries in British boxing over the years, with their dads one of the most memorable in history.
Many of the great British rivalries lie in the heavyweight glamour division, with the likes of David Haye vs Derek Chisora and Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury taking the limelight.
But there is also huge interest in the lower weight classes, with Carl Froch‘s famous two-fight epic with George Groves claiming the modern era.
The pair met in front of a record-breaking 80,000 crowd at Wembley Stadium, an attendance that Eubank Jr vs Benn won’t quite meet.
But Eubank Jr’s promoter Ben Shalom expects the interest and hype surrounding the rivalry to surpass that.
“Look is it the biggest event? I’ve never seen an event quite like it,” he told talkSPORT.
“Everyone stops you on the street about Eubank vs Benn, it has taken the country by storm.
“This is crossing over in every corner of the country. The biggest ever, I don’t know the market has changed in the digital world.
“But I think numbers wise and interest wise, it will be right up there.
The rivalry has everything including history and passionGetty“I think it will be bigger than Froch vs Groves, and the biggest outside of the heavyweight division in recent memory.”
Froch and Groves met in two barnstorming classics, with their first clash setting up a compelling narrative for their second event.
Their rivalry paved history, but Eubank and Benn already carry history passed down to them from their famous fathers.
The conflict has also built up over time, given the pair were due to meet in 2022 but the bout was cancelled.
It has been a long time coming, and tension can be cut with a knife given there has been physical confrontation throughout the preliminary stages.
Eubank Jr was fined £100,000 after hitting Benn with an egg which added a spiky layer to their opposition.
It will be the third instalment of a rivalry dating back 35 yearsGettyHe has also missed weight just hours before the contest, another dramatic turn with their ring meeting fast approaching.
The twists and turns are what has made the rivalry special, and the boxing fraternity hope that their tussle delivers on fight night.
And talkSPORT boxing expert Adam Smith believes that is exactly what will transpire.
He added: “It is a huge fight, it has got family feud and vicious intentions between the pair of them.
“It should be a fire fest of a fight, Benn has a style of ferocity whereas Eubank Jr looks to outclass his opponents.
“But I think the two of them will blend quite nicely into quite a nice happening for British boxing.”
Eubank Jr and Benn can barely be separated, with the former just a narrow favourite.
But the guns will fall silent in their wars with all eyes on the squared circle in North London.
The stakes couldn’t be higher and if another British boxing affair unfolds like that of Froch vs Groves, it could well eclipse it.
And the boxing fraternity will no doubt plead for an immediate rematch, with a clause in place contractually to see the British stars do battle again.
