‘People’s Town Hall’ at the Moxi to demand more engagement from Rep. Evans ...Saudi Arabia

Sport by : (GreeleyTribune) -

A group that accuses U.S. Rep. Gabe Evans of not properly engaging with his constituents will host a “People’s Town Hall” on Saturday in Greeley.

The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Moxi Theater, 802 9th St. There will be no keynote speakers, and residents will be encouraged to share their opinions and voice how they expect Evans to represent them.

“Rep. Evans has been hiding from his constituents for his first 100 days in office. He’s pursuing policies and laws that cause real concern in our community,” Karissa Beresford, one of the event organizers, said in the event announcement. “People on both sides of the political spectrum have real concerns about losing critical services in the coming budget cuts, and the policies that Evans backs look to only contribute to the already staggeringly high cost of living. It’s unacceptable that he won’t face his constituents.”

Organizers have invited Evans to attend, but they have yet to receive a response. According to Evans’ Deputy Chief of Staff Delanie Bomar, most of Evans’ schedule is filled with meetings with Coloradans. He has personally had 171 meetings with constituents and held a telephone town hall of his own April 1, and he intends to host more.

“Claims that the congressman isn’t engaged with the community are not rooted in fact whatsoever,” Bomar said in an email. “Just because these folks don’t see it happening doesn’t mean it isn’t happening.”

Additionally, with the Colorado Working Families Party, an organization dedicated to “upholding progressive values through direct action and electoral victory,” sponsoring the event, Bomar said it is not an organic uprising.

“It is a Democrat cry for attention as their party approvals tank across the county and in Colorado,” Bomar said in an email.

The event will follow a town hall scheduled Friday in Thornton focusing more on residents’ concerns regarding Medicaid and budget cuts.

The Greeley town hall, however, focuses on what the organizers say is Evans’ inability to be more available to his constituents. Beresford claims to have personally made 56 phone calls to Evans’ offices in Greeley, Northglenn and Washington, D.C., all of which have gone unanswered.

“When I first reached out to the office of Gabe Evans to express my concerns, the response was non-existent,” Beresford said in an email. “I have reached out dozens of times over email and via phone call with very little response. The communication has not improved over time. If anything, it’s gotten worse.”
