It was established by two Dutch associations, Emissionfree Network Infrastructure (ENI), and smart-charging federation ElaadNL.
The idea is to attract others in the construction equipment value chain.
Volvo CE signed up at bauma 2025. Komatsu is also a member.
The goals are to foster pre-competitive collaboration among companies to scale up zero-emission equipment, establish design standards for big electric machines, and make a plan for continuing the group beyond this year.
Standards for the latecomers
“If we are to accelerate the adoption of zero-emission solutions for the benefit of our customers, we must foster deep cooperation across the value chain,” said Karl Uebel, Volvo’s electromobility system architect, who’ll represent the company on the roundtable.
Volvo said standardising electric equipment will bring better compatibility and safety and speed up the switch to electric machines.
It said European countries are adopting zero-emission equipment at different speeds, so the roundtable’s goal is to establish open standards before the latecomers scale up.
Volvo said an easy win would be standardising smart charging protocols across different brands and machines, something it pioneered in 2023 with its 48-volt charging protocol.
