Platteville homes evacuated because of gas leak ...Saudi Arabia

Sport by : (GreeleyTribune) -

Fifteen houses were evacuated in a Platteville neighborhood late Thursday afternoon because of a “minor gas leak” found at one home, the Platteville Gilcrest Fire Protection District said.

The leak was located on Goodrich Court during an assessment by Atoms Energy, according to fire protection division chief Matt Concialdi. The impacted homes are in the cul-de-sac on Goodrich Court and on Birch Street and Cotton Avenue. Birch Street and Cotton Avenue are both in Valley Village, which is a mobile home park.

Concialdi did not know how many people were impacted by the evacuation order. Atmos Energy manager of public affairs Briston Jones said about 20 people were affected.

Evacuated residents are being received at the basement of the First United Methodist Church, 316 Elizabeth Ave. in Platteville, according to the fire protection district’s Facebook post. The basement of the church is set up as a shelter, according to church member and attendee Curtis Mork.

Mork said as of early Thursday evening no one from the evacuated area was at the church — with the exception of Mork. He’d been out of his home on Goodrich Court for about four hours by 6 p.m. Thursday.

Jones said there is no timeline on when the residents may return to their homes.

Concialdi said the homes were evacuated “as a precaution” until Atmos can shut down the leak.

“Atmos is working hard to mitigate the situation,” Concialdi said. “It’s under control and Atmos is mitigating all hazards right now.
