A 54-year-old Weld County man may spend the rest of his life behind bars after he was sentenced to 50 years in prison for selling a pound of methamphetamine to undercover officers in two separate deals last year.
Leroy Cerda, 54. (Courtesy/Weld County District Attorney’s Office)Leroy Cerda, 54, pleaded guilty in February to two counts of distribution of a controlled substance, according to a news release from the Weld District Attorney’s Office. Last week, District Judge Anita Crowther handed down the sentence.
“I want to make something clear,” Chief Deputy District Attorney Michael Pirraglia said in the release. “The Weld County Drug Task Force team goes after established drug dealers in our community, and this defendant was one of them. He preyed upon some of the most vulnerable by spreading this deadly poison throughout our community, and by seeking to make a profit off other people’s addictions.
“I hope this sends a message that if you are caught taking part in this type of criminal behavior in our community you will be punished to the full extent of the law.”
In April 2024, Cerda sold a half-pound of meth for $1,000 to undercover officers with the Weld County Drug Task Force. The next month, he again sold half-pound of meth at the same price to undercover officers, according to the release.
Cerda was arrested in June 2024 and has been in custody since. He has several previous felony drug convictions spanning the past three-plus decades, all in Weld County.
He was convicted of felony drug possession from incidents in 2022, 2017, 2003, 1998 and 1992. He was also convicted of felony drug distribution in 2007, according to Colorado court records.
