Ten alleged members of a San Diego County drug trafficking ring faced federal charges Friday after coordinated law enforcement raids, authorities said.
More than 115 federal and local law enforcement officials on Thursday served search warrants in Nestor, Palm City and Encanto, leading to the arrests, along with seizures of multiple narcotics, including 26.8 kilograms of powdered fentanyl and 25.7 kilograms of methamphetamine.
They also found smaller amounts of other drugs, including heroin, cocaine and ketamine, along with $40,000 in cash, nine firearms and a Maserati Ghibli, a vehicle that when new costs nearly $110,000.
Those arrested in the crackdown are among 16 defendants charged in four separate indictments unsealed this week, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office. Six remaining defendants remain at large.
The suspects in custody, eight men and two women, range in age from 18 to 32. They face multiple charges related to conspiracy to distribute narcotics, as well as laundering of the sale proceeds.
Prosecutors said that during a 16-month investigation, the defendants were found to have distributed drugs in other states, including Ohio and Kansas. They then used shell companies for money laundering.
The investigating agencies include the Drug Enforcement Administration, along with the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office and the San Diego, Carlsbad and Oceanside police departments.
