Billy Napier expects DJ Lagway to be “100%” when Florida starts OTAs the first week of June.
That’s what the Gator head coach said a week ago when he spoke with reporters, and it’s what he reiterated on Friday when he made an appearance on the SEC This Morning show on SiriusXM with Peter Burns and Chris Doering.
Florida’s second-year quarterback was limited during spring ball by a shoulder injury that has reportedly been around since his high school days. While that injury has led to some consternation about the Gators’ ceiling going into 2025, Napier has consistently signaled that Florida is not overly concerned about the status of its star quarterback. According to Napier, Lagway is “in a great place” and was able to practice in a limited capacity while staying “connected” with the team.
“We have no concern. We’ve dotted all the Is and crossed all the Ts,” Billy Napier said. “We’ve been a little bit short-lipped, tight-lipped about it just in respect to the family and the way they want to handle it. But, in general, we have a really good plan. We’re working with exceptional people.
“He’ll begin throwing here in a couple (of) weeks. Everything is on schedule.”

After going through the offseason preparing to be the backup, Lagway was thrust into a starting role at random intervals due to injuries to senior quarterback Graham Mertz. Lagway ended the season with 1,915 passing yards and 12 touchdowns against 9 picks, while the Gators went 6-1 in games that Lagway started.
