The University of Northern Colorado women’s golf team finished sixth Wednesday in the 10-team Big Sky Conference Championship at Wigwam Golf Course in Litchfield Park, Arizona.
UNC improved its team standing with each round, finishing with a 54-hole total 41-over par 893 on the par 71 course. The Bears were 18 over par after the first round, 13 over for the second and 10 over in the third round.
Sacramento State won its third state team title with a 1-over 853 for a 15-shot lead over second-place Weber State.
Freshman Samantha Colombine was the top UNC individual golfer in a tie for 11th place, 10 shots off the lead. Colombine shot 71 and 72 in the final two rounds. She had a 76 in her opening round Monday for a three-day total of 219.
Montana State’s Maddie Montoya was the tournament medalist at 4-under par. Montoya’s scores were 70-70-6 for a total of 209.
Three other UNC golfers finished in the top 30.
Timbre Shehee tied for 19th at 9-over (75-74-73—222). Shehee, a junior from Mead, finished the tournament with her best round at 2-over par Wednesday.
Carolina Fallotico and Olivia Salonek tied for 27th. Fallotico and Salonek both finished 13-over par with scores of 226. Fallotico went 74-77-75. Salonek’s scores were 77-75-74. Fallotico is a junior from Milan, Italy. Salonek is a sophomore from Minnesota.
