After 14 years, India to finish Goa-Mumbai highway ...Middle East

News by : (GCR) -
Nitin Gadkari, India’s minister of roads and highways, has said the ill-fated Goa to Mumbai highway is due to be completed in June.

Work on four-laning the 580km route began in December 2011, according to Times of India.

Quoted by The Indian Express, Gadkari said: “There were numerous difficulties with the Mumbai – Goa highway, but do not worry, we will complete the road 100% by this June.”

Gadkari blamed the delay on difficulties in acquiring the land.

“There were fights among brothers, cases in courts, and endless complications in providing compensation for land,” he said.

The highway will cut travel time and also aims to boost development in India’s western Konkan division.

Gadkari also said that India’s road infrastructure will be “better than that of the United States” in two years and that new toll rules will be announced in the next two weeks.
