Ben Whittaker vs Liam Cameron will now go ahead as planned over ten rounds.
Whittaker and Cameron’s teams have been embroiled in a contract dispute over their rematch this weekend, after BOXXER demanded the fight was made ten rounds despite signing an agreement for twelve.
Whittaker and Cameron will fight over ten rounds according to promoter ShalomGETTYCameron was demanding financial compensation to move down to a shorter format and changed the signed agreement.
At the start of this fight week, Cameron’s promoter Frank Warren suggested a deal still hadn’t been reached with the fight to still take place over twelve periods.
Warren ripped into the situation and labelled it ‘Micky Mouse’ and a ‘Circus’ during a live interview with talkSPORT, pinning the blame on Shalom and BOXXER.
But in a new interview on White & Jordan, Whittaker’s promoter Ben Shalom has revealed it is all sorted and signed ahead of Sunday night’s clash.
He said: “It’s always been ten. I’ve said it’s been ten, we admitted the error two weeks ago.
“It has now been agreed by everyone that it is ten rounds. They have had their fun with it.
“We felt it was dealt with quite a while ago, we felt it was done two weeks ago.
“A week later what was asked for completely changed. We had told the board and everyone that it was agreed.
“Frank I’ve never even spoken to about the deal. I can see what’s going on.
“We dealt with this in February. We did what they asked, it should have been done and suddenly things changed.
Shalom revealed to talkSPORT an agreement was reachedGetty“We agreed to pay Liam and he deserves every penny, it was our mistake.
“What’s happened has been farcical, it has been a circus. But now we are here’s it’s ten rounds and we can look forward to an unbelievable fight.”
It appears it has finally now been signed and come to a conclusion despite weeks of public disputes.
And Cameron’s manager Lee Eaton confirmed it from the other side of the negotiating table on social media.
He tweeted: “Update – Liam Cameron has come to an agreement with Boxxer and Ben Shalom make the fight with Ben Whittaker a ten round fight.
“We are very happy with the new terms agreed & look forward to the fight on Sunday.”
The stakes couldn’t be higher for Whittaker vs Cameron 2Mark Robinson / Matchroom BoxingBritish Boxing Board of Control chief Robert Smith was even forced to clarify the situation in an interview with talkSPORT.
But now the fighters will hope to focus on the events in the ring after such a controversial first meeting.
It will be a huge and bitter settling of their rivalry, since Whittaker was forced to pull out of their clash last year after suffering an injury following a ring collision.
The rising superstar will be favourite to get the job done against the rugged and tough Cameron, who argued he was winning their first clash which ended in a draw.
And Shalom expects the event to now be even bigger again with all the drama that unfolded.
He added: “It’s bigger than I’d imagined. It’s the talk of the boxing world, a huge fight.
“Ultimately in my opinion, having this amount of talk about Ben Whittaker is off the scale.
“We expect record viewership, as people are locked in and obsessed with this.
“What this rounds dispute has created is one of the most talked about fights this year.”
