Rory McIlroy and American beauty Erica Stoll first met in 2011 when she was working as manager of championship volunteer operations for the PGA at the Ryder Cup.
A year later at the same event, the Northern Irishman was famously late to the course after his alarm failed to go off.
So Erica sorted a police escort for Rory, allowing him to tee off on time as Team Europe completed the “Miracle at Medinah”.
The couple tied the knot on April 21, 2017.
Their guest list included soul legend Stevie Wonder, Coldplay’s Chris Martin and One Direction’s Niall Horan.
On August 31, 2020, Rory and Erica welcomed their first child together, Poppy Kenney McIlroy.
Shocking announcement
Rory’s journey in the year leading up to his historic Masters victory was a rollercoaster of personal and professional highs and lows.
On May 13, 2024, the Northern Irishman shocked fans by filing for divorce from his wife of almost eight years Erica Stoll — their anniversary falls on April 21.
At the time, TMZ reported that the golfer asked for the couple’s prenuptial agreement to be upheld, as well as implementing a shared parenting plan in the documents.
The news came just before the 2024 US PGA Championship, but the reasons for the split were never publicly disclosed.
Reconciliation
However, just a month later Rory and Erica reconciled.
On June 11, 2024, Rory filed a Notice of Voluntary Dismissal of the divorce petition.
He later explained that they had resolved their differences and realised they were all better off together.
Rory told the Guardian: “There have been rumours about my personal life recently, which is unfortunate. Responding to each rumour is a fool’s game.
“Over the past weeks, Erica and I have realised that our best future was as a family together.
Thankfully, we have resolved our differences and look forward to a new beginning.”

This renewed unity was on full display during the 2025 Masters week.
Erica was there supporting her man, even serving as his caddie during the Par-3 contest.
Their daughter Poppy stole the show by impressively sinking an impressive 25-foot putt on the ninth hole.
And the tranquility in his family life seems to have paid dividends.
Rory finally achieved his long-awaited goal of winning the Green Jacket, completing his career Grand Slam in dramatic fashion by defeating Justin Rose on the first hole of the playoff.
Overcome with emotion, Rory celebrated with Erica and Poppy on the 18th green, calling it a moment that would stay with him forever.
Fighting back even more tears, he said: ” Last but not least, over to my left, my family, my team. They’ve been on this journey with me the whole way through.
“They know the burden that I’ve carried to come here every year and try and try and try again.
“The one thing I would say to my daughter Poppy, never give up on your dreams. Never ever give up on your dreams. Keep coming back. Keep working hard.”
