But where do they — and other clubs — stand when it comes to the most English league titles in history?

Manchester United – 20Most Recent Title: 2012-13
Manchester United sit top of the all-time standings, with 20 English league titles split across the First Division and the Premier League. They are set to be joined by Liverpool on 20 any moment now, though, with the Reds bearing down on the 2024-25 trophy.
United’s early success came under Sir Matt Busby, whose ‘Busby Babes’ won back-to-back titles in the 1950s and helped establish United as a post-war powerhouse.
But their true dominance arrived with Sir Alex Ferguson, who won 13 Premier League titles between 1993 and 2013.
That 2012-13 triumph — Ferguson’s final season — remains United’s most recent title win. They’ve since struggled to reclaim their position at the summit of English football.

With their imminent 2024-25 title win, Liverpool are set to become 20-time English champions, going level with rivals Man Utd at the top of the leaderboard.
Liverpool established themselves as a major domestic force in the 1960s under Bill Shankly, before dominating through the 1970s and 1980s, claiming 11 league titles in 18 seasons under the stewardship of Bob Paisley, Joe Fagan and Kenny Dalglish.
That success dried up after 1990, though, with the club enduring a 30-year wait before Jürgen Klopp delivered the Premier League in 2019-20.
Now, under Arne Slot, Liverpool are set for another golden chapter. The Dutchman is on the verge of becoming just the sixth manager to win the Premier League in his first season in charge of a club — joining José Mourinho, Carlo Ancelotti, Manuel Pellegrini, Claudio Ranieri and Antonio Conte.
Slot’s side are also closing in on securing the title at one of the earliest points in Premier League history.

Arsenal rank third for the most English league titles, with 13 in total.
Their golden era came in the 1930s, when legendary manager Herbert Chapman and successors Joe Shaw and George Allison delivered five titles in eight years.
The Gunners added three more in 1947-48, 1952-53 and 1970-71, then won the league twice under George Graham in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
Arsène Wenger added three Premier League titles, including the iconic Invincibles season of 2003-04, when Arsenal went unbeaten across the entire campaign — a feat only previously achieved by Preston North End in 1888-89.
Mikel Arteta continues to chase a long-awaited 14th league crown for the club.
Manchester City – 10Most Recent Title: 2023-24
Manchester City’s presence among the elite has largely been confined to the Premier League era. Of their 10 titles, eight have come since Sheikh Mansour’s September 2008 takeover saw City’s financial position transform practically overnight. The first of their eight Premier League crowns arrived in 2011-12, when Roberto Mancini ended a 44-year wait for top-flight glory.
Under Pep Guardiola, City have redefined consistency and dominance. The 2023-24 season brought them a record-breaking fourth consecutive English league title — a first in the history of the men’s top flight.
Guardiola now has six titles in just eight seasons, and City remain the standard-bearers for modern English domestic success.
