CHESTER COUNTY, S.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- A 15-year-old boy, who's facing charges tied to a shootout at a Lancaster Walmart, will stay in jail.

He appeared before a Chester County family court judge Wednesday afternoon. He's one of six people facing charges.

Lancaster Police Capt. Nelson Bowling took the stand and described a 51-second surveillance video, showing what led up to the shooting inside the store. He said the two groups of teens approached each other from opposite directions on an aisle near the sporting goods section.

"You could tell there was an altercation there," said Bowling. "There's movement there. The store manager said she seen somebody swing a fist."

Bowling said the 15-year-old suspect threw the punch, starting the fight, and then three people pulled their guns.

"Shots fired from all three firearms," he said. "Total of 11 rounds."

Investigators don't believe the suspects went to the store that day intending to have a shootout, but said all are affiliated with two opposing gangs.

The 15-year-old's attorney claims his client was not the instigator and was simply there with his sister and girlfriend to buy fishing supplies.

"They were coming for my child," said the teen's mother. "My kids were going to be killed that day."

The boy's mother spoke in court, telling the judge her son has a history with the other suspects.

"I have a police record from when these young boys came by my house," she said. "They have shot my house up 16 times. My kids are not bad kids. They are not bad kids."

It came out in court that the 15-year-old has a previous juvenile conviction.

"Somehow he managed to procure a firearm again for last week's debacle and carry it to the Walmart," said the prosecutor. "He had no hesitation pulling it out and firing it at 2:30 in the afternoon in the middle of the most crowded store in Lancaster."

The judge is ordering the teen to stay in jail and have an evaluation done to determine whether he should be charged as an adult. He's facing several charges, including attempted murder.
