RCB wicket-keeper batter Jitesh Sharma has been a familiar name for quite some time now, even made it to the Indian team, played nine matches, but was never really seen as a long-term prospect. IN the IPL too, he would come up with a sparkling innings here and there, but nothing consistent.
Jitesh Sharma Finally Comes to the Fore in IPL 2025
But IPL 2025 so far has been bit of a turnaround. The 31-year-old has been playing knocks of importance and showing the consistency that was needed. Against GT, he scored 33 from 21, and then followed it up with 40 from 19 against MI, that proved to be the difference of a win or a loss.
And this turnaround has happened due to Dinesh Karthik. Not just because he announced his retirement, but also placed a lot of faith in the 11 Cr recruit. That now means, Jitesh Sharma has scored 85 runs in 3 innings this season at a strike-rate of over 180 and an average of 42.
Only One Factor Behind Transformation
“I think last year’s performance was my mental thing. I have told everyone about that because I was not mentally in the game at that moment and I was thinking about future things. It’s been a great journey till now. Because in off-season, I really worked hard with him. Whichever shot I am playing right now is a replica of what he used to play.
“He is trying to create me as a new player because he believes in me that I can play all around the 360 angles. I am really enjoying to see myself in a new role. While I am playing those shots, I am very happy because I have never tried those shots. I am able to execute and all the backing he has for me,” said Jitesh in a press conference in Bengaluru.
Meanwhile, RCB take on DC next at home game in Chinnaswamy Stadium on Thursday.
