MACY’S will join the list of retailers that are planning to close stores for one day only in the coming weeks. 

The temporary store shutdown will be in line with a popular spring time holiday.

A representative for Macy’s confirmed to The U.S. Sun that department stores will not be open on Easter Sunday.

The company has 425 regular locations, 20 small format stores, and five freestanding outlets, according to its store count.

The closure will force shoppers to change their schedules if they had a trip to the department store planned on Easter Sunday.

But, department store fans will still be able to get their latest fix. 

This is because shoppers can still buy their favorite items on the Macy’s website and the brand’s mobile app.

A slew of major retailers are giving workers Easter off to spend with their families.

Sam’s Club 600 warehouses will not be open on April 20 this year, and neither will Costco locations.

Costco’s warehouses will also be closed on Memorial Day – which falls on May, 26.

Stores are also closed on Independence Day, July 4, and Labor Day in September.

Aldi stores will also be silent on Easter Sunday, as will Target locations.

Last year, Lowe’s hardware stores were closed, as were TJ Maxx and Marshall’s locations. 

Kohl’s locations and some H&M outlets closed on Easter Sunday last year, according to USA Today.

But, not all retailers followed the trend and closed stores to mark the holiday.

Shoppers can generally expect the following retailers to be open and closed on Easter Sunday, which falls on April 20, 2025, this year:

CVS Dollar General Whole Foods Home Depot Kroger Trader Joe’s Walgreens Walmart Dollar Tree

Closed:

Target Costco Aldi Sam’s Club Publix JCPenney Kohl’s Macy’s H-E-B Michaels Lowe’s Best Buy Marshalls

Easter Sunday hours will vary by store and location. To avoid any surprises, be sure to check with your local store for their specific Easter hours.

Walmart, which has 4,000 supermarkets across the US, will be open as normal. 

Trader Joe’s and Kroger stores will also be open, but shoppers have been warned about potential opening hours changes.

Home Depot and Ikea locations were also open on Easter Sunday last year.

Most major restaurant chains will also be open on Easter Sunday.

But, diners are encouraged to check the trading hours of their local restaurant to avoid disappointment.

Diners will be able to enjoy family favorite classics at Applebee’s and Golden Corral establishments. 

But, Chipotle and Chick-fil-A establishments will be closed.
